FAQ's

According to "Wikipedia," it is a condition in the human body (and animals) that hair is lost from some or all areas of the body. The underlying skin remains without scars and looks superficially normal. The disease is not life-threatening. Some individuals may feel depressed or decrease in self-esteem.  It is a condition that occurs equally in both males and females and more common at a young age.

Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks healthy body tissues. It detects healthy tissues as foreign and damages it.  In most cases, the disease appears in people with a healthy background.   During the disease, the immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair loss.

There are many assumptions regarding the reaction of the immune system. However, the reasons are not entirely clear. The pharmaceutical market offers medicines that delay the attack and treats the symptoms but not cures the disease. Hair loss will return right after stopping the medication.  Alopecia Areata affects about 2% of men and women around the globe, and there is no actual cure for it.   In 50% of the cases, the balding areas might grow back spontaneously after a year.

Alopecia Areata can appear at any age, and most often before the age of 30.  Alopecia Areata can be associated with diseases of the thyroid gland, vitiligo, Crohn's disease, or inflammatory bowel disease – colitis. Additionally, before performing hair transplant, the following medical conditions have to be reviewed: chronic skin infections, skin rashes, atopic dermatitis, and juvenile diabetes.

Before the procedure, patients must be tested by a dermatologist and examine the cause for their hair loss.

Medications with a doctor's prescription only:

  • Topical steroids – as ointment or injections.
  • Minoxidil – can accelerate hair growth in bald areas.

  • Propecia pills – suppresses the hormone responsible for hair loss.

Nizoral Shampoo – A shampoo contains the ketoconazole component.  This material reduces hair loss in typical men baldness, by suppressing the DHT and relieving infectious processes that lead to hair loss.   By the use of Nizoral only, we probably would not get the same results of using all three solutions together.  The shampoo only slows down hair loss at some level.

The hair shaft is not a living organ. It grows thanks to the hair follicles beneath the skin.   A type of androgen named Dihydrotestosterone or DHT, which originates in the male testosterone, is going through a natural conversion in our body. In most cases, by the age of 18, our hair looks healthy because this androgen is not found at high levels in our body. The absence of this enzyme in the hair follicles areas is the cause for healthy hair.  The high presence of this enzyme later in life inhibits the healthy growth of the hair.

A healthy hair growth cycle must fulfill three phases:  Growth phaseThe primary and most prolonged phase, Transitional phaseThis is the phase where the hair physically grows, Resting phaseIn which a hair unit falls out until it regrows.

In a normal state, about 100 hairs fall out from the head every day. Since the vast majority of follicles are in their transitional phase, the head looks full and healthy.

After the age of 18, the concentration of the androgen in the blood increases and the follicles gradually weaken.  The growth phase becomes shorter, and the resting phase longer until it almost remains permanent. This condition increases hair loss and hair thinning.

With age, our body changes and becomes exposed to the ravages of time.  Our hair is also getting old and is exposed to our lifestyle – smoking, alcohol drinking, diet, stress. All of these can harm and accelerate aging and hair loss.

As in any other recovery process, it is individual. This is a personal process and the time of recovery varies from one person to another.

The donor area – The back area of which the implants were taken will return to normal hair growth during the first month, similar to hair that grows after shaving.

The transplanted area can be swollen during the first week.  Numbness in the area can last up to 9 months after the treatment.

The transplanted areahealing includes dehydration of the scalp and scabs that will eventually fall out.  The transplanted hair will fall out completely within two months and regrow right after.  In the process of 12 to 18 months, we get the final result.

Physically – there is no prevention to go back to a full work routine the day after the treatment.  Yet, going back to full routine depends on the type of work, and the personal feeling of each individual to the appearance after the treatment.  It is recommended to take a week off from the day of treatment, letting the initial swelling to pass, and a few days of scalp washing to clean the head from leftovers of dry blood.  High tension physical activity, sports, or physical labor should be avoided for at least two weeks.

High tension physical activity, sports, or physical labor should be avoided for at least two weeks.   The implant's absorbing process takes about two months, including fall out of the hair that was already attached to the root. Afterward, new hair grows from the implanted root.

The growth progress of the new hair is individual and depends on several factors such as blood flow in the scalp, use of medications, smoking, etc. About six months after the treatment, additional hairs will grow from the same transplanted follicle – a process that thickens the amount of hair in the transplanted area.  The potential of each follicle will eventually be fulfilled by growing more than one hair.

There are nutritional components taken orally, such as vitamins, that are known for their effect and added value to the health of skin, nails, and hair – Which are organs that not affected only by the external environment but also, and maybe primarily, by the internal skin layers.   Therefore, we recommend maintaining the treatment from inside and outside the body.

Vitamins which include:

  • Ortho-salicylic acid – silka – is considered an essential substance in the process of hair formation.
  • Sulfur – a substance that helps create keratin – an important fundamental in hair in the process of hair production.
  • Biotin – Lack of biotin might cause hair loss.
  • B vitamins.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids – essential for a healthy hair growth.

A daily wash of the hair, particularly for greasy hair, is even recommended.  There should be no reason for hair loss also by using shampoo and conditioner.  For persons with dry hair – daily wash is less recommended so the hair will not get dryer.  Avoiding hair wash might cause dandruff, so it is recommended that persons with dry hair will wash it every two to three days.

There is no proof that it has a direct effect, though it is very important to paint with quality materials approved by the ministry of health.  Likewise, choose a professional hairdresser that works responsibly.

  • Wearing tight hats. The friction and pressure of tight accessories on the head harms the skin's blood flow, and prevents oxygen supplies to the roots. This might cause death and fall out of the hair.
  • Wearing the hair with a tight ponytail on a daily basis weakening the hair and its attachment to the scalp.
  • Use of hairdryers and straighteners – using direct and intensive high heat might damage the body of the hair, break it, and eventually fall out.
